Curriculum

The M.B.A. Program consists of foundation courses and 40 credits of graduate business study. The curriculum is divided into three parts:

  1. The Foundation Component, providing training in basic business fundamentals;
  2. The Core Component, comprising fundamental graduate business courses (28 credits);
  3. The Elective Component, encompassing highly advanced and elective graduate business courses, special tracks, and the thesis option (12 credits).

Foundation Component and Courses

Students lacking the required academic background in business administration must first take the necessary foundation courses. The Foundation Component introduces the broad field of business administration and the fundamental quantitative techniques used in business analysis. Courses in the Foundation Component are (all courses are 3 credits):

  • ACG 6027 Financial Accounting Concepts
  • ECO 6008 Seminar in Modern Economic Concepts and Theories
  • FIN 6406 Financial Management
  • MAR 6055 Marketing Functions and Processes
  • QMB 6603 Data Analysis for Managers

Note: The exact number of credits required for each student will depend upon the previous academic record. More information may be obtained from the Office of Graduate Programs in Business.

Core Component and Courses

The Core Component consists of required graduate business courses that extend the basic business background provided in the Foundation Component. Core courses are as follows (all courses are 3 credits unless otherwise indicated):

  • ACG 6315 Advanced Analysis and Application of Accounting Data
  • FIN 6806 Advanced Financial Management
  • GEB 6215 Graduate Business Communication Applications
  • ISM 6026 Management of Information Technology
  • MAN 6245 Organizational Behavior
  • GEB 6931 Contemporary Issues in Industry: The Executive Forum (1 credit)
  • MAN 6501 Operations Management
  • MAN 6721 Global Business Strategy
  • MAN 6937 Global Environment of Management
  • MAR 6815 Marketing Management in a Global Environment
  • Electives: twelve (12 ) credits

Elective Component – Tracks/Certificates

All tracks/certificates within the M.B.A. program will consist of the basic core as listed above (28 credits) and track electives (12 credits). The student may elect to take all electives in a single area or take an interdisciplinary approach and take electives in more than one area.

In order to receive certification in a track, all course work must be completed with no grade less than a “B-,” and an average of 3.0 for the 12 to 15 credits of the track. For more information, contact the Office of Graduate Student Programs. Students who do not elect a track will be granted a General M.B.A.
